Jewelry Organizer
This one was a small weekend project to help the kids keep their medals, necklaces, keychains, and various jewelry items organized. My daughter's in particular. She has a collection of lovely necklaces that she can't wear because they get hopelessly tangled in her jewelry box. Also, because she's 9, "out of sight, out of mind".
Both of the kids have loft beds over their desks. The bottom side of the bed (or roof of the desk area) has a series of support slats for the mattress that make an excellent place to hang things. I started with four 1/2" dowels and some screw-in eyelets. I painted the dowels with metallic colors that the kids picked and screwed the eyelets into the ends.
I also bought some 3/4" rings and lanyard hooks. The hooks come in packages of 75, so I picked up 2 packs and enough rings to match. This gives us more than 35 hooks per dowel. The lanyard hooks would be troublesome to clip, and even more trouble to un-clip. I wanted more simple hooks, so I cut the gate of the clip short and closed the loop around the ring.

And then repeated this process 150 times. Because I'm hard core, baby.
Slide the rings onto the dowels. I kept all of the hooks facing the same direction, not because I'm Type A, but because I didn't want the hooks getting tangled. And because I'm Type A.
And finally, cut some ribbon and string them up. Hang some jewelry, and enjoy!
