Butterfly Stitch Shawl (August 2019)
Rory asked me to teach her to crochet, but she does not yet have the patience for it. I found a neat yarn from Lion Brand called "Shawl in a Cake" and picked it up for her in the hopes that it would inspire her. The color was "Unique Unicorn". Eventually she just asked me to make something nice with it for her. So I found a fun stitch online with butterflies and made this shawl for her. Funny thing is, midway through the project, my old hook snapped in half. I hate changing hooks in the middle of a project. It messes with the gauge. But how do you fix an old plastic hook? I could crazy glue it, but it would just snap again. I needed something to support the repair. I dug around in my office and came across some scraps of worbla from a cosplay project. This stuff softens with a little heat, can be shaped, and then hardens like magic. It worked, and I used the hook to finish the shawl!

Felt Crowns (October 2009 & 2012)
The PTA at the kids' school was hosting a Hallowe'en dance party, and I volunteered to organize a costume contest for the kids. As prizes, I designed a set of felt crowns for cutest, silliest, and scariest costumes. Each crown was adjustable with a velcro strip. The kids loved them! I really should make these more often. They're so fun and adorable.
